Joan L. Green, MA CCC-SLP, is a nationally known speech-language pathologist, assistive technology specialist, author, course creator, and presenter. After growing up in Buffalo, NY, she pursued her undergraduate and graduate education at Northwestern University in Illinois. She then worked in various hospital, rehabilitation, and home care settings in Virginia and Ohio before venturing out independently when she and her husband moved to Maryland. Over 30 years ago, Joan created Innovative Speech Therapy, a private practice in the Washington, DC, area with a mission to help children and adults with neurogenic and developmental communication, cognitive, literacy, productivity, and learning challenges. Joan specializes in integrating everyday devices, smart assistants, apps, and accessibility features into engaging activities to help people overcome areas of challenge and maximize success. She offers local and online technology-based training, consultation, and coaching for professionals, schools, rehabilitation and educational programs, senior care providers, and families. She is also the creator of the TheyMayNotKnow.com webinar series and the administrator of the private IST Tech Savvy Solutions Facebook Group. Both were created to support families and professionals as they strive to learn to use technology to support communication and learning. Her most recent project is the creation of the ElderTech Advisor and Teacher Cohort. In addition to providing individual and group sessions and online courses, Joan wrote and published 4 books. Her most recent book, Assistive Technology in Special Education. 3rd edition: Resources to Support Literacy, Communication, and Learning Differences was published by Prufrock Press in May 2018. She is now working on a book all about technology for seniors. Joan is a frequent presenter for local and national organizations. Her presentations are constantly updated to reflect the forever-changing world of affordable technologies. She is the mother of 4 young adults, is very involved in caring for her elderly parents, and lives in Potomac, MD, with her husband and two dogs- Teddie and Cody.
