Owen Gottlieb, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor of Interactive Games and Media at the Rochester Institute of Technology. He is the director and lead research faculty of the Initiative in Religion, Culture, and Policy at the RIT MAGIC Center, a research lab and game studio. Gottlieb’s research and publishing traverses game and simulation design, religious studies, film and media studies, learning sciences, cultural anthropology, and communications. His augmented reality mobile game, Jewish Time Jump: New York was nominated for Most Innovative Game at the Games for Change Festival in 2013. His team’s new game series, Lost & Found (www.lostandfoundthegame.com) has been featured in the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s 2018 SAAM Arcade and the Boston Festival of Independent Games. Gottlieb founded ConverJent: Jewish Games for Learning in New York in 2010. He has written screen and teleplays for Universal and Paramount. He has worked as a software project manager and business strategist, taught dance to teens in the Negev desert, and spent twelve years as a director’s liaison at the Telluride Film Festival. His newest research team is focused on interactive media and healing.
