Description

This story is something I observed whilst completing a project for a large multinational pharmaceutical and CPG company. My role was to advise on the global consolidation of manufacturing and other business services so the situation I’m about to tell was just something I observed at close hand, because I happened to be there at the time. This company manufactured feminine hygiene products and because of the personal nature of those products, manufacturing standards and quality assurance criteria had to be extremely high.  As a result, reject levels between 40% and 60% were not unusual.Profit margins were strong so high reject rates could be accommodated. The real problem however was that these rejected products could not be re-worked and disposal was a huge and unwanted headache. That is until a gentleman walked into reception one morning and inquired whether the company was prepared to let him have all the rejects.Listen to this episode and you'll find out what happened.
