When it comes to the exercise guidelines people are given for optimal health, 150 minutes of aerobic exercise per week is the standard prescription. But many in the fitness research community believe it’s time for resistance training to take it’s rightful place as exercise king. 

Mike is joined by James McKendry, PHD who was one of the five authors of a recent paper from McMaster University titled, “The Health Benefits of Resistance Training: Beyond Hypertrophy and Big Weights”. They discuss the effect of resistance training on mobility, cognitive function, cancer, mortality, aging, and impact on obesity and type two diabetes.  They also share their views on the need for aerobic exercise.
