Description

LSU football has struggled with several injuries on both sides of the football throughout spring practice. Some injuries we expected, like defensive lineman Maason Smith returning from a torn ACL he suffered against Florida State this past season or running backs Josh Williams and Armoni Goodwin returning from knee surgery. However there are several players sidelined with injuries that we didn't expect; safety Greg Brooks was seen last week at practice in a walking boot and LSU football head coach Brian Kelly shared with the media that he is dealing with a sprained ankle that should not keep him out long. However, the safety room took an even bigger hit when Kelly announced that Major Burns would be out for the rest of spring practice. But as defensive coordinator Matt House said last week pertaining to the injuries, it is next man up. Brooks and Burns' injuries have given true freshman safeties Javien Toviano and Ryan Yaites an opportunity to take reps.
Plus, Brian Kelly noted last week that he and House want Harold Perkins to play linebacker. Perkins had taken reps at inside linebacker in practice but neither Kelly nor House specified exactly where they envision Perkins lining up come September. Kelly clarified those comments about Perkins and highlighted why Perkins' added work load and modified role is a positive thing for the defense.
