Reflecting on her upbringing, Carissa realizes that her beliefs about success were not truly her own but rather programmed into her unconsciously. It wasn't until she achieved what society deemed successful (money, cars, materials)  that she discovered it didn't align with her. For a time, success meant materialism, the spotlight, and influence, but she soon realized she had sacrificed her authentic self and everything that held meaning to her. 
In the pursuit of this illusion, she found herself constantly seeking the dopamine high, disconnected from her own truth amidst the trauma.
