Description
Malo and welcome to Season 3 Episode 22 of Breakfast Bites, by TeivovoSports.com – a wrap of Pasifika Peoples sports on this wet but windy Saturday morning 22 October 2022, coming to you from paradise on the 180th meridian in the middle of the Pacific Ocean! In rugby – our world famous tips for the Women’s RWC in Whangarei: Australia to lamington Wales, New Zealand to pavlova Scotland, Fiji to fruit salad France and in Auckland - Italy to tiramisu Japan, Canada to cherry apple pie the USA and England to bread and butter pudding South Africa. In Rugby League World Cup games today, we tip Australia to bundaberg Scotland in Coventry and tomorrow the Fiji Bati to Limoncello Italy in Newcastle, England Gin & Tonic France in Bolton and New Zealand to Appleton Rum Jamaica in Hull. Papua New Guinea Kumuls flyer, Xavier Coates and Fullback Edene Gebbie are heading home after suffering tournament-ending injuries. The Melbourne Storm Wing missed the PNG Kumuls’ first clash against Tonga due to a hamstring injury, and now will be flying home with Gebbie. In football – Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard has been sacked as Aston Villa Manager barely an hour after his side collapsed to a 3-0 loss to promoted Fulham. Villa have won just two of their 11 games this season and Gerrard won just four of his 22 games in charge from last season. In boxing – Sunday’s UFC280 in Abu Dhabi will be massive with the main event featuring Charles Oliveira (21-8 UFC) versus Islam Makhachev (11-1 UFC) for the vacant Lightweight title. In the co-main event, TJ Dillashaw (13-4 UFC) takes on Bantamweight Champion Aljamain Sterling (13-3 UFC). Only in America – the NBA is expected to net at least US$75Billion for its next media rights package starting in 2025. It boasts rising superstars like Ja Morant and Jayson Tatum with global appeal, plus a tech-savvy audience of younger consumers used to streaming services. ABC/ESPN and TNT pay the NBA a total US$2.6B annually, but the footprint of pay cable operators is shrinking radiply. Just last year, ESPN’s distribution shrank 10% to 76 million US homes — a 24% drop from a high of 100 million a decade ago. Meanwhile the gorillas in the room - cash-rich Amazon and Apple are expanding into streaming live sports with each boasting market capitalizations of over US$1Trillion.
