LGBT soccer fan groups are boycotting the FIFA World Cup in Qatar starting on the 20th November due to Qatar’s treatment of the LGBT community. Qatar anticipates around 1.2 million foreign visitors to attend the world cup. Last week, fans were warned by U.K. Foreign Secretary James Cleverly to “respect” Qatar laws. So some UK LGBT groups are urging their supporters “not to watch the FIFA World Cup on TV, as a statement of principle.” That’s a fair warning because homosexuality is illegal in Qatar — and if prosecuted, Muslims could face the death penalty.
