Description

On this episode of the Peristyle Podcasts hosts Ryan Abraham and Coach Harvey Hyde are back together discussing what turned out to be the largest margin of defeat for the Trojans during the Lincoln Riley era, a 48-20 beatdown at the hands of Notre Dame.
A huge factor in the loss was the fact that USC turned the ball over five times, including a career high three interceptions for Heisman Trophy winning quarterback Caleb Williams, and surrendered a kickoff return for a touchdown.
Coach Harvey Hyde talks about how this was an extremely difficult weekend for USC fans, seeing their team go down hard on a national stage in a historic rivalry with thousands of Trojans making the trip to South Bend. He also said it was embarrassing for fans to watch how this team played, getting dominated in all three phases but especially the offense and special teams units. It was a painful experience and there is no time for the team to lick its wounds with Utah coming into the Coliseum this weekend.
The Coach talks about how the USC offense couldn’t get anything going, with the offensive line struggling making Williams look uncomfortable and a run game that just couldn’t generate consistent production. Notre Dame played a lot of man defense and limited the separation for USC’s wide receivers, making it even tougher for Williams to find someone while under pressure.
Defensively the squad did play better, but it was against a more limited Fighting Irish offense. Special teams were a major issue and one that doesn’t seem to be improving as the season advances.
As usual the guys answer listener questions via email, text message and voicemail to finish up the show.
