LSU Tigers head football coach Brian Kelly had to use the transfer portal to build up nearly an entire secondary after Ed Orgeron's firing left the team with fewer than 40 scholarship players on the roster. Kelly and the rest of the coaching staff was forced to go back into the transfer portal to replenish a secondary left with only one remaining scholarship cornerback in the 2022 season. The lack of depth and talent in the secondary shows as LSU has one of the worst pass defenses in the Southeastern Conference. But help is on the way as the LSU Tigers landed two cornerback commits in the 2024 class bringing the grand tally to five for that position in next years freshman class.
PJ Woodland, a 3-star cornerback from Hattiesburg, MS, committed to Mississippi State in June but then decommitted earlier this month. Just a few weeks later the Mississippi native flipped to SEC West rival LSU. But the flips did not stop there – Louisiana's own 3-star cornerback Bernard Causey flipped from Ole Miss to LSU earlier this week as well.
