In this first episode of Open Studios, performance artist Asia Stewart sits down with Indy Sanders, the founder of PerformVu.
After playing tennis professionally and working in various tech roles, Indy fell into the world of performance art with Asia's help; the two are actually married!
Sitting in the audience for many years, Indy recognized some of the problems that artists experience when producing and sharing experimental works and identified the challenges that audiences face in attempting to find and watch performances online. Determined to make experimental performance more accessible and provide performance-based artists with a new channel of compensation, Indy founded PerformVu.
As they describe it, "PerformVu is the digital home for experimental performance. It's a space where audience members can explore, watch, and support experimental performance, including the artists and the video works they produce."
Throughout their conversation Asia and Indy discuss Indy's journey in launching PerformVu, outline some of PerformVu's objectives, and consider Indy's personal relationship with body-based work.
