Description
Today’s episode is a complete treat for anyone who wants to learn more about food security, intersectionality, social - environmental justice and how to take action to live a more balanced, conscientious and informed life. We are delighted to welcome the sweet and sage Isaias Hernandez to SOUNDFOOD. Isaias is an environmental educator and activist, vegan, entrepreneur, public speaker, digital marketer, and creator of Queer Brown Vegan- an educational platform that seeks to share the spectrum of environmentalism through graphics, illustrations, and videos (and very delicious vegan recipes!) Isaias grew up in Los Angeles, CA where he witnessed environmental injustices through his unique perspective as a BIPOC and LGBTQIA person. It was those disparities that inspired him to obtain a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science from UC Berkeley. Wise beyond his years, he has gained experience in a variety of diversity inclusion work in environmental spaces, academic research, and creative work. We discuss Isaias’ focus on creating food security in communities, the importance of buying local food, what sustainability actually means, avoiding “vegan capitalism” and seeing through “rainbow washing” and more. Isaias also has a reverence and sensitivity for Indigenous cultures that govern so much of his personal practices and convictions. This conversation imparts as much wisdom for the mind as it does nourishment for the heart and soul. Thank you Isaias for joining us! Thank you for tuning in. If you are able to donate to SOUNDFOOD we would be so grateful for your support. Everything and anything you can give helps us continue to share these conversations with the world. Infinite gratitude!
