It's been a thousand years since the Oilers last played, and that meant I was very excited to talk about some actual hockey as opposed to whatever drivel is normally coursing through my brain. Ladies and gentlemen, it's time for a fresh episode of Better Lait Than Never.Kicking off this week's podcast, I got started with a look at Christmas shopping, one of my most detested activities of all time. It's not that I don't like buying presents for my friends and family, but rather I get annoyed by the ridiculous crowds of people who swarm most stories in the Western world. Thank Gord for Amazon. On the bright side, one of the fun parts about Christmas is that it gives us all an excuse to drink weekday rums in the spirit of the holidays. If drinking on a Tuesday night isn't festive, then I don't know what is. Turning the podcast toward the Oilers, how can you not feel excited (cautiously optimistic?) about this eight-game heater the team is on right now? After the team wrapped up its eighth consecutive win with a 4-1 finish over the Blackhawks last night, the Oilers find themselves only a single point out of a playoff spot with games in hand. I don't know about you, but I didn't really expect them to get back xin the race as quickly as they have. I figured it would take until later in the season for the Oilers to get back in the playoff mix, but I suppose there's not much that an extended winning streak can't solve. Lastly, I wrapped up the episode with another Righteous Sack Beating and a fresh round of voicemails to get your take on everything that's been happening since last week's episode.
