Transcript:David Doty (00:00.898)Hello my friends and welcome to the Bible in Order where we are chronologically going through the entire Bible in one year and asking lots of questions as we go. Today's January 4th and the reading is Job chapters 1 through 5. I think Job probably had some questions too. I know I would. Chapter 1 verse 1 tells us that he was upright. He was a man of good character. He tried to always do the right thing.and he was also very rich. Now, verse 6 says, there was a day when the sons of God, just like the sons of God in Genesis chapter 6 verse 4 that we read about a couple days ago, who are these sons of God who came and presented themselves before Yahweh and Satan also came among them? Some people would try to explain this away and say it's, oh, it's just,metaphor. It's not real. Some people would say the sons of God are believers. They're the descendants of Abraham. They're the chosen ones. Like Enoch may have been there. And that's possible.David Doty (01:22.594)But then that would seem to discount the mighty ones, these larger, stronger men of old who seem to have some special characteristics if they weren't actually giants. Now, I believe the more I read into this that they were giants, but these sons of God, are they angels? God doesn't usually call the angels sons,read Hebrews chapter 1. But then who are they? If they're not angels are they some other heavenly creature? Or are they just people? And was Job there among them? It seems that way perhaps. But Satan was certainly there. And Satan actuallywas approached by God. We wanna think of Satan and God as these mortal enemies that can't have a conversation.David Doty (02:31.202)Has it always been that way? Is this before Satan fell? Well it must be after Satan fell, if Satan ever did actually fall.David Doty (02:44.63)because God is saying to Satan, you can make him sick. You can take everything away from him, but you can't kill him. So Satan had a job to do, and it was to strip everything away from Job, including his health.Poor Joe.David Doty (03:08.79)Well, I am curious to hear what your insights are about this.subject of the sons of God. What do you think?David Doty (03:22.846)What is your opinion of this relationship between Yahweh or the Lord? Your Bible probably says the Lord in all caps instead of God's holy name Yahweh.
