Description
If you have never been to the family court to give evidence or even if you have given evidence on numerous occasions it is inevitably an uncomfortable experience. Be ready for this and expect to be challenged. Michael explains what is waiting for you in the witness box and how you should respond to it.
KEY TAKEAWAYS
The court setting is specifically designed to test your evidence under stress.
The verbal assault of those challenging you will be damaging to your self esteem as their arguments will inevitably question your competence.
Be calm and alert. Responding with obvious stress or anger will give the impression you are incapable.
Your mind is your most valuable asset so be circumspect concerning what you allow in from outside and what you say to yourself internally.
BEST MOMENTS ‘The court is really a place of war. It is full of conflict and brutality. Perhaps you would not expect that from the family court but if that’s the way you think and you have to give evidence any time soon, get ready for an unpleasant surprise.’‘When you truly value your inner thoughts and feelings you will realise that what is going on outside of you, what others might be saying to you or about you is unimportant.’ ‘If you practice being in a calm state of mind and maintain that attitude when you enter the witness box it will be easier for you to maintain that state of mind throughout your time in the box.’
