The Jets own the third overall pick, but they are a candidate to potentially trade back. I have made no secret of the fact that I am a big fan of the three players the team is likely to pick if it keeps the third overall pick. A trade down does remain a possibility, though. A trade down could potentially help the Jets stack their figurative cupboard with young talent. But I am admittedly not a fan of some of the prospects they might take after moving down. The NFL Draft remains an unpredictable event. We do our best to study the prospects, but we can never be totally certain in our assessments. Like everybody else, some prospects I have liked in the past have been total busts while some I have disliked turned out great. Locked on Jets 5/22/18 Episode 417: Depth/Upside Positions: I have no Sam Darnold for you on today's podcast. Today's show has only me, and the discussion is about depth. I offer three positions where I like the depth the Jets have. Before we start, I do need to clarify what I mean by depth. There are very few position groups for any team in the NFL where the backups are proven, quality players. That just doesn't happen in today's NFL with limited practice time to develop fringe players and a salary cap, which makes it difficult to retain proven guys who do not start. When I talk about depth, I am partially talking about upside. At which spots do the Jets have a combination of proven players and reserves who have upside? I understand it gets a bit subjective there since upside is generally in the eye of the beholder. I think we still genuinely know upside when we see it. Jets Draft Likes, Dislikes, and Thoughts Episode 856 4/28/20: We now have the full 2020 NFL Draft class for the Jets. On yesterday's podcast I went through pick by pick and offered thoughts on each player the Jets added. On today's show I give thoughts on the big picture. What did I like? What didn't I like? What did I notice? I think any discussion of likes has to start with the offensive line. After years of ignoring the trenches in the early stages of the Draft, the Jets used the eleventh pick and another top 130 pick on offensive line prospects. They also added additional picks during the value stages of the Draft. These were among my likes. What about dislikes? The addition of Denzel Mims feels like a great value, but only adding one receiver in a deep class at the position feels like a missed opportunity. What is a general thought? The Jets clearly valued measurables in this Draft. Whether that will ultimately prove to be a successful approach is unclear. Draft Day Episode 853 4/23/20: The 2020 NFL Draft begins today. Tonight the first round gets underway around 8:00 pm Eastern. It will be televised on ESPN, ABC, and NFL Network. Rounds two and three will take place on Friday night, and the fourth through seventh rounds will happen on Saturday. The Jets currently hold the eleventh overall pick in the Draft. That, of course, could change if they decide either to trade up or trade down. On today's podcast I discuss tonight's possibilities. I do not think the Jets should be seeking a trade up. We have reached the end of the transaction period. Yes, there will still be some player movement, but it will come at a slow pace and be infrequent.
