The should they/shouldn't they debate around the Lakers barely had a chance to get going before news came Sunday that the Nets were trading Kyrie Irving to the Mavericks for Dorian Finney-Smith, Spencer Dinwiddie and picks. It all happened pretty quick, and a few things have become relatively clear in the hours since.First, the Nets weren't interested in Russell Westbrook, and wanted a package that would allow them to stay competitive in the near term while also adding assets to keep building around Kevin Durant and keep him happy. The Lakers couldn't provide any of that. Second, reports also indicate that Nets owner Joe Tsai was imposing a "Laker Tax," not necessarily aimed at the Lakers themselves, but at Kyrie. If Brooklyn was going to reward Irving with his first-choice destination, it would only be for an offer so overwhelmingly lopsided they couldn't possibly turn it down.The Lakers weren't going to do that, and so while Irving gets his wish to leave Brooklyn, it's not to his first-choice destination.So what were the Lakers willing to offer?
