On today’s very special episode of Songmess we sat down with Pacific Northwest legend and KEXP fixture DJ Chilly to open our brand new series devoted to music of the region and many other special surprises. The renown alias of William Myers, DJ Chilly has been working at the beloved radio station for over 20 years, starting the Latin alternative-focused show El Sonido over a decade ago and now co-hosted alongside Argentine radio personality and activist Albina Cabrera.

Our conversation gets into Chilly’s extensive trajectory DJing on the radio and at live gigs, the genesis of El Sonido and the need to focus on fresh sounds instead of nostalgic favorites. We also try to put our finger on the pulse of new Latinx sounds brewing in the Pacific Northwest, KEXP’s enduring cultural relevance, and some delightful tunes to keep us bopping throughout.
