Description

We're now in a pasuk in Tehilim 31,2, another pasuk of Chisayon , which is not really reliance, but seeking refuge and protection. בְּךָֽ־יְהֹוָ֣ה חָ֭סִיתִי אַל־אֵב֣וֹשָׁה לְעוֹלָ֑ם בְּצִדְקָתְךָ֥ פַלְּטֵֽנִי׃ In You Hashem, I seek refuge . I will not be embarrassed forever ( I might be embarrassed but not forever). In ( the merit of ) Your righteousness (not my righteousness) save me. David Hamelech uses the words Becha Hashem/ In You Hashem , and the Midrash Tehilim asks, What's this stress on In You? He says, the Jewish people gather in shuls and they say to God, Save us. God asks , Do you have righteous people amongst you? Do you have God-fearing people amongst you ? They respond, In the past we had Moshe, we had Aharon, we had Shaul, we had David, we had Shlomo, we had sadikim..But today, due to our sins, they've been taken from us. We don't have those great people anymore. We have nobody to rely on. Wherever we go, it's just darkness. To which God responds, “ Rely on Me because whoever relies on Me, I save them .” And it goes on and says, Chananya, Mishael and Azaria were thrown to the fiery furnace and Nebuchadnezzar said about them, “ Blessed is your God that saved you. He realized these men relied on God. So too, Daniel was saved from the pit with the lions. And therefore, David Hamelech is saying, if that's the case, if that's the power of reliance, if anyone that relies on You, You save, Becha Hashem Hasiti, In You I seek refuge. Even though I don't deserve it and I don't have any Sadikim around me, I’m still going to rely on You. The Ramchal, Rav Moshe Chaim Luzatto, better known for his sefer Mesilat Yesharim, says that It is well known that in the merit of our kivoy/our hope to God that we had in the time of the exile, we will be redeemed. He says the main redemption will be due to the fact that we keep the Torah. He quotes a Midrash in Tehilim on Mizmor 7 that בך Becha In You has a numerical value of 22, corresponding to letters of the Torah, which means we're relying on the Torah, and in the merit of the Torah that was given with the 22 letters, we’ll be saved. And what is the Busha of Al Evosha / we will not be embarrassed? The Busha/embarrassment is that if a person eats what's not his it’s called the bread of shame. We're sent down to this world for one reason. God could have sent us straight to Gan Eden. But if a person eats food that he didn't work for, he's in the free soup kitchen, and it’s called the bread of shame. You're getting free food and you don't feel good about yourself. A man that inherits a great amount of money and didn't work for it, doesn't feel as good as the man that worked for his money. Therefore, God put us, due to our sins, into Galut . He could have gotten us out without any difficulties, but then it would've been a redemption of shame because we weren't fit. But since we have so many difficulties and we accepted the difficulties with love and didn't kick, and we continue to rely on Hashem in these Tzarot , and we hope to Hashem, when the Geula comes, we're not going to be embarrassed. This is a huge concept to understand- that Hashem is giving us these challenges so that by not kicking (easier said than done) and accepting the difficulties, we are creating and amassing tremendous merits. We will not be embarrassed at all. Yes, we have our weaknesses and yes, we have our downfalls, but we have tremendous challenges and tremendous difficulties and we overcome them with our reliance in Hashem. That accrues for us tremendous merit. And that's בְּךָֽ־יְהֹוָ֣ה חָ֭סִיתִי אַל־אֵב֣וֹשָׁה לְעוֹלָ֑ם בְּצִדְקָתְךָ֥ פַלְּטֵֽנִי׃ I rely on You. And I know that these challenges that give me the opportunity to rely on You will cause me not to be embarrassed and I will eventually be redeemed – not because of my merits (I might have a lot of sins)-but because of my reliance on You, that's it. I don't have anything to rely on, but I rely on You and in order to facilitate that reliance, I need to have
