Description

Frank Turner is a big name in punk and singer-songwriter folk-style music. Since he has such a huge presence in these scenes, we needed to know what he thinks of ska. Turns out, he has a lot of thoughts, and he tells them all to us! Frank’s got quite the ska resume. He’s toured with The Interrupters, Bedouin Soundclash, he grew up going to UK skacore shows in the 2000s—he has a lot to say about this amazing UK scene. We find much more ska in his history, including a reference to the genre on his new album, Undefeated (release date: May 3, 2024)We also talk about his love for Converge, Koo Koo Kanga Roo (Including a weird show of theirs he dragged Dan Ozzi to), having NOFX cover his song “Thatcher Fucks The Kids,” and turning it into ska. And we talk about some of the toughest runs of shows Frank has played. Listen to Frank Turner talk about on the In Defense of Ska podcast. Then, follow the series wherever you get your podcast. Ska no longer needs to be the butt of every joke. IDOS is flipping the narrative on this style of music that they love dearly. Hosts Aaron Carnes (author of "In Defense of Ska") and Adam Davis (Link 80, Omingone) chat with people in and outside of the ska scene to tell its stories, show its pervasiveness in culture, and defend it to their last dying breath.
