In October 2002, a series of coordinated shootings, known as the Beltway sniper attacks, terrorized the Washington metropolitan area. The attacks spanned from February to October 2002, covering the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia. On October 19, Jeffrey Hopper was shot near the a Steakhouse in Ashland, Virginia. His wife’s quick call for help and the prompt response from passersby and authorities saved his life. A four-page letter from the sniper, found nearby, demanded $10 million and threatened children's safety. Richard was in the restaurant and left just a few moments before Jeffrey Hopper was shot. You've probably seen on television news interviews that they have a hard break. It's the same with radio. The stations have to be able to program in their commercials, news, weather, traffic reports etc. These are called avails, they are NOT Optional. Every guest knows about and is informed of the length of the segments and that I will interrupt them if needed to go to the break. The interviews are recorded and the guests know that the segments must be in a certain length and it is required and they get to tell their stories to millions of people for free.
