About this series
Let there be light, the words which according to the third verse of the Book of Genesis, God called light into being on the first day of Creation.
It tells us in the beginning God created heaven and earth and the earth was without form and was void; darkness was upon the face of the deep and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters and said “Let there be light” and there was light and God saw the light and divided it from the darkness.
And so the world was created with night and day, darkness and light and without the light there could be no life.
Whether you believe that God created the universe or whether you subscribe to the ‘big bang’ theory it doesn’t matter; but what is important is that we could not survive without light and without light we would not be able to identify colour. Colour emerges from light and is present in many natural phenomena through the presence of pigments.
Traditionally early civilisations spend most of their time outdoors in the sunlight; they responded to the changing of the seasons and lived by their instincts. Seasonal variations in the weather such as sunshine, rain, snow, wind and temperature all influenced the surrounding colours. Emphasis was put on the vibrant colours of the summer, the yellows, oranges and browns of the autumn and the greys and dark browns of the winter as well as the greens and yellows of the spring.
You will be fascinated about the origins of colour meanings and what they mean to your everyday life.

Barbara Chamberlain
•Barbara has had the gift of mediumship from being a young child but only started to use it at the age of thirty. For the last 26 years she has involved herself in the spiritualist movement by working closely with her local church as the President and has worked on the rostrum in other churches, demonstrating her mediumship. It was a natural progression for her to then move on to doing private readings for those who sought her gift, along with evenings of clairvoyance to cater for the people who did not want to attend a church but still wanted contact with the spirit world. She taught her craft by holding awareness classes and workshops in her church before going on to hold private events. Barbara went on to shape her life around her gift and qualified as a holistic therapist and went on to teach aromatherapy, reflexology and indian head massage at her local college. During this time she undertook a degree course ‘Certificate in Education’ and studied councelling and transactional analysis. After qualifying in holistic therapies and with her interest in all things spiritual she opened her own therapy centre which then lead on to her studying beauty therapy and adding these services to her business. As a medium she was also drawn to healing but found that she connected more with Reiki healing as opposed to spiritual healing and went on to become a Reiki Master and added reiki attunement courses to her growing portfolio of ‘gifts’. Throughout her life, mediumship and her relationship with the spirit world has led Barbara to write a book about her experiences and used the stories of her own and clients’ lives to highlight issues that many of us face in life. It was always a ‘burning’ thought at the back of her mind that she should put pen to paper and as most people who sought her gift would ask “How did you know you were able to communicate with spirit?” and “How do you actually do it?” she found it inevitable that she would have to write this down and explain to those who are interested just exactly what it is like to be a medium. She felt compelled to tell the stories of her clients and why they sought her gift and what issues of life come from these meetings and believes that this burning compulsion comes as a strong push from the spirit world for her to tell it they want her to.
