- The Art of John Seymour Lindsay: The Watercolours
2
Throughout John Seymour Lindsay's artistic life, he used colourwash and watercolour to express his feelings for buildings, objects and landscapes. At all times, including his life in the Front Line trenches in the Great War, he carried the tools of his trade - pencils, pen and ink, blocks of paper and his precious watercolours. This book gives a view of the variety of styles he employed.
- The Art of John Seymour Lindsay: The Cartoons
1
John Seymour Lindsay was an extremely productive artist who as a youth produced a delightful series of cartoons on postcards using ink and colourwash. They are full of humour, often portraying himself with his friends. They fall into four subject areas: observations of his surrounding life, holiday adventures with friends, social issues of 1906 and courting his future wife, Mildred Ethel Williams.
- The Art of John Seymour Lindsay: The Building Sketches
3
John Seymour Lindsay had an obsession with period buildings. Between 1906 and 1910 he travelled around southern England sketching country houses and buildings of antiquity. He was a master draughtsman with a great eye for perspective. During this time he finely tuned the art of using his pencil to draw out the character of a subject through great composition and clever use of light and shade.
- The Art of John Seymour Lindsay: The Metal sketches
5
John Seymour Lindsay was a master of drawing metalwork. It is amazing how the flourish of his simple pencil could so faithfully portray the characteristics of beaten wrought metal. He had few if any equals in this particular medium and also knew his subject – ironwork. He had handled hundreds of pieces of wrought iron and other metal implements, understanding texture, patina and finish.
- The Art of John Seymour Lindsay: The Sketches
4
John Seymour Lindsay loved sketching at every opportunity. He carried with him at all times the tools of his trade - sketchbook and pencils. His subject matter was all encompassing - buildings, life studies, portraits, newspaper sketches, landscapes and still life. This book gives the reader a selection of these, in various media, and shows how he was always searching to improve his techniques.
