About this series
Never make a deal with a Faerie. You won't make it out alive.
Of all the races in this world, the most treacherous is the Faerie. They claim to never lie, and yet when it comes to deceit and trickery, they are at the top of their game. An old proverb says never make a deal with a dragon. I have never met a dragon, but I would trust its word more than I would trust that of a Fae.
And yet I foolishly signed a contract with one. Silly me.

I’ve lived a longer life than most. And I survive by staying under the radar and not pissing off the local Night Walker Family here in Atlanta, Georgia. Until some schmuck left a dead body in the lobby of a local historic building for the public to see. A building that just also happens to belong to the city’s most prominent and powerful Families. So who do they call to investigate? Me. Why…because I can see things most people can’t. I’ve solved several cases where the perps aren’t human and the punishment not within the usual legal system. Who am I? I’m Ren Grainger. I’m a free Ghoul. But I’m also a Chevalier and bound to fight for the Night Walkers. Even if they take my life.
- Something In The Water: Cast In Shadow, #2

My black market blood dealer, Emmet Carson, is dead. So are three other people, all found in Lake Lanier. No one had to hire me to unravel this mystery. This was personal. Or it was, before the Head of the Talmadge Family, Jedediah, requested my presence once again. This time a magic cup is missing, stolen out of the New York safe house, a place that holds Night Walker artifacts. It was stolen by another Ghoul, and Jedediah wants me to find it. After all, she and I were in the same club of previously owned humans. Throw in a Vampiric Countess, a sleeping Ancient and a myth even I didn't believe existed, not to mention, there is something in the water...
