About this series

I left my childhood home at age 17 and enlisted in the Air Force. Those were probably some of the best years of my life. I married my wife, had two kids while stationed at March Air Force Base, California for almost five years, then 2 ½ years in the Air National Guard, we moved to Cedar Hill, Texas, then after a short time to North Richland Hills Texas. We moved back to Cedar Hill where most of these poems originated. I started working at Bell Helicopter in 1967, retired in 2001. We have lived in Midlothian Texas for the past 40+ years. We raised two boys, two grandboys and now we have the pleasure of having our great granddaughter living with us. She is such a joy to this old man,

I remember when I self-published my first book in 1974. My wife worked for the local newspaper, so she was a lot of help. I couldn't have done it without her. The way you got the text and clipart on the page was call (Cut & Paste) and it was nothing like the cut & paste of today. All you old timers might now what I'm talking about. If I remember correctly. It cost about $165. Dollars for a few hundred copies. I sold them to the folks at work for 75C each. I made enough to pay the printing costs and still have a few copies left.

As I continue to dig through my desk and closet for more of my poems, I find myself reverting back to how it was when I first started writing poems. I lay my head on my pillow and the words start tumbling out. I have a little tablet beside my bed that I write the words and ideals on, then I go to my computer to put then down a book. There is much lost sleep envolved in this process, however, I feel it is worth it. The reason I wanted to put these words into booklets isn't for the money, but maybe someday when I'm gone my descendants might want to see what this old man has done.

Since I've been going through the stuff that I wrote, I find my mind working like it did in the past. I lay my head down to go to sleep and the words keep coming, they won't leave me alone. Here it is almost mid-night. I went to bed around nine, but I had to get up and put the words on paper. In this case, in the computer. I don't remember when it stopped or slowed down in the past, but let me tell you now, it's wearing me out.
